On May 28, 2014, we received a letter from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in order to congratulate us and confirm that Project United Community Development Corporation was selected as one of the entities to be awarded a Brownfields Cleanup Grant for $200,000 to execute an asbestos clean-up of our site located at 1446 Conner Drive in the Pleasant Grove community of Dallas, Texas. Brownfields Cleanup Grants provides funds to carry out cleanup activities at a specific brownfield site owned by the applicant.
Our Community Centers are safe havens of community services and support programs. Youth have various programs such as mentoring, out-of-school tutoring, counseling, computer classes, and recreational games. Our Community Action Group has found that most teens become problem teens because they do not have anything else to do. These community services and support programs causes teens to have positive attitudes that keep them from becoming troubled teens.
We are using this blog as a forum for comments and questions.

Project United After School programs helps kids with their homework if they have problems. Also it gives them a place to be a learn more about other cultures. The staff is very helpful and caring about the kids. They go out of their way to make them feel welcome and safe.
ReplyDeleteI have seen and been involved in a lot of the projects with Project United and I believe in the dedication that is given to these children.
ReplyDeleteI hope to be apart of more things to come.

Project United is a great organization that has the community at heart. With so many youth being at risk; organizations like P.U. is so much needed and they lead the way in helping make our society better by being a positive influence in the lives of low income families.
ReplyDeleteAWESOME! The citizens of HG are very fortunate to benefit from this program in our community. Grateful to those who made it happen.
ReplyDeleteIt was a pleasure meeting with you Mr Boyce. I look forward to working with you and Project United in the near future!
ReplyDeleteProject united is a great program I am a volunteer for the Dallas and East Texas project. I love the people that are there, they are so sweet and caring. I recommend everyone to take the time to help this organization, it's worth it.
ReplyDeleteProject united is a great program providing after school activities and assistant to children who otherwise would go home to an empty house. Project united makes a difference in children's lives.
ReplyDeleteProject United is a wonderful program that helps our youth; rather thats helping them with school work to help putting clothes on their backs. I personally can not name any other program that offers the services that Project United does. This program will help our youth of tomorrow to become successful adults. With that being said Thank You Projrct United for all that you do.
ReplyDeleteI am glad there is a program in the small town of Honey Grove wanting to assist the youth. My son was very excited at the opportunities he was given. It has helped him become more responsible and giving. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteThis project is very important because it will assist parents with positive influence for kids because they are like wet cement, the way that we mold them now is the outcome that they will be in life.
ReplyDeleteI have been a part of Project United for several years and I have learned a lot about the love of God through the actions that are expressed through this organization. I am proud to be a volunteer.
ReplyDeleteI am a volunteer for Project United and I love being a positive influence in the lives of the children who are a part of this project. I can't hardly wait until the new center is opened in Dallas.
ReplyDeleteThe after-school and tutoring programs will be good for my grandchildren as well as other kids in our community.
ReplyDeleteI am 18 years old and I believe that it is a wonderful idea and people should contribute to this project.
ReplyDeleteI am 9 years old and I think it is a wonderful idea.
ReplyDeleteI tnink that it will be great for all the kids and stuff like that.
ReplyDeleteProject United is doing a great job with this idea. I am 10 years old.
ReplyDeleteI think that Project United is a great thing in my community because there is a great opportunity for my friends and I to have a great time at the center. I also think teenagers can hang out up there so that they can stay out of trouble.
ReplyDeleteThe opening of our Dallas community center is a part of all my dreams coming true as well as assisting in the fulfillment of the dreams of the teens of our community. I have interviewed many youth from ages 6 to 18 and they all have made the same statement, "I don't have anything to do that will keep me out of trouble”. My response to them was, “we are going to do everything that we possibly can to change that fact”. This project will assist Dallas County in the positive change that is necessary for the continued health and welfare of our community. I can’t hardly wait until it opens!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea for kids and the community. Good luck to Project United!!
ReplyDeleteWe appreciate the values that project united is bringing to mankind. Educating our youths to stay out of trouble is wonderful works you will always be remember for. God bless you.
ReplyDeleteProject United is exactly what our communities need. Its so good to see a program that is addressing what is becoming an epidemic in communities everywhere of troubled teens. This is needed everywhere . Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteProject United's project in Honey Grove is awesome! The after school program offers tutoring, food, and leadership to kids. They also had a back to school style show for the kids. Boy Scouts were able to earn credits by volunteering to do some painting. All of these things are positive influences on young people. When Project United's Community Center in Dallas is opened, the same type of services and MORE will be offered to even more young people in the Dallas area. I look forward to assisting in this project the same as I volunteered for in Honey Grove. God Speed!!!
ReplyDeleteProject United is an organization that is long overdue for the communities it serves. It offers an opportunity for growth, enrichment and enlightening the youth and young adults. We are thankful to have access to a resource such as Project United in our community and we support and believe in this project 100%!
ReplyDeleteHaving a program like Project United in Honey Grove is one of the best things to come to the community since the Library! It is a great facility and the folks that run it area top notch! Lon gave us a tour of the facility and it is looking good - and the plans they have for it are quite impressive! We're so glad to have good programs in the community!
ReplyDeleteWow!!! Project United should be commended on a job well done. This is a blessing from the Lord. The commitment from the staff is awesome. Not only can the students have fun, but they can learn as well. This is a place where your ethnicity doesn't matter. Thanks Project United for everything and keep up the good work !
ReplyDeleteProject United is a wonderful thing because it allows kids to have a place to go. When I was a kid, we did not have a place to go in order to keep us out of trouble. I think that it is every parent's dream for their kids to have programs like the ones that Project United provides. I am glad to be a part of this project.
ReplyDeleteIf a center like Project United had been available in Dallas, I know that my grandson would have had a better chance of not getting into trouble. Project United is needed for all the kids in Pleasant Grove.
ReplyDeleteI am so excited about this program and I know that it is a positive change that is well needed in Dallas. Not only is it for kids to have fun, but to also teach them that they can achieve their goals & learn that we need more positive values. Showing them and the rest of the community that every man, woman, and child that every one counts.
ReplyDeleteThis is well needed in Dallas, it's not just a community center it will be a place where people can come together. No one will be left out, this will be a new adventure for those who get invloved. As I listen to Mr. Boyce in the town hall meeting I watched the excitment that he showed as he talked about assisting people & with having this center other will do the same and assist someone.
ReplyDeleteWow, I wish that there was a center like this when I was coming up. Not only to have fun in but to have a place where I could have a mentor that really cared about what kids like me was into. It's hard out there and Mr. Boyce & his staff shows that they care about not only the community, but what kids are doing & what the communties all around are doing. Thanks we need this.
ReplyDeleteI've heard alot about what this young man is doing and I am one to say don't let anything are anyone discourage you from the vision that was giving to you. It will come to pass. May the vision continue to be blessed. Every one will benefit from this. The childen are our future.
ReplyDeleteI'm a 71year old man that heard about this project. I was very impressed of the differnt ideals this youngman had and that he took the time to put it on paper and make it a reality. The vision that he wanted for the young & old not to just sit around and waste ther live, but to show them that they are here to make a difference.
ReplyDeleteWeLL, Well, Project United is good for erveryone.
ReplyDeleteIt will make a difference, a positive difference.
Project United Community Center is a place where children will be able to go and learn and receive help with homework. Providing kids with a safe environment in order to interact with other children is a wonderful way of keeping them off of the streets.
ReplyDeleteDear Mr. Lon
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking out your time to come talk to us about your life and the community center. You were a very great speaker. It was funny when you were singing Justin Bieber. Now that was hilarious. I was glad to see Mrs. Dee. You looked very handsom. Tell Mrs. Dee that she looked very pretty too!
Dear Mr. Lon,
ReplyDeleteI am glad you came. I hope you build a park. Tell your wife that she is pretty. It was funny when you said baby baby ho. I do not know what I want to be when I grow up. But I want to go to college. If you like the color blue that is my color what I like. Thank you for taking you time talking to us.
Dear Mr. Boyce,
ReplyDeleteThank you for coming to talk to us. Mr Boyce you look very handsom. Tell Mrs. Dee she looked very pretty. And telling us about your community. My favorite part is where you sung Justin Bieber and your dog snoopy. I like kids to. My favorite color is blue to. Thank you for telling us about your community.
As i read comment after comment i feel very priviledge to be a part of something so great! I've had dreams of winning tha lottery about the time i joined Project United. And now when i see the smiles, hear tha laughs and thank you, i know i won. I have a GREAT T.E.A.M thanks for letting me join!
ReplyDeleteMr. Boyce,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the visit. I hope I can come to the center this summer.
Dear Mr Boyce,
ReplyDeleteThank you for telling us about your life. It was very thankful of you. I wish my life was like that. It was funny when you said baby, baby ohh! I was laughing so hard. When you get the playground better, can we play on it sll day long and not do any work? Building the playground may be hard work. Whats your favorite tv show? My brother plays football too. He won a trophy and medal. Do you want to be a baseball player? If you don't, well, I do!
Dear Mr. Boyce,
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking your time to come to talk to us about what you do in the community. Tell Mrs. Dee that she looked pretty. It was funny when you sang baby. I like your dog's name that is Snoopy. I hope you get to build a playground. I have gone to the community center to. I want to be a vet when I grow up. My favorite color is lime green.
Dear Mr. Boyce,
ReplyDeleteThank you for coming to my school. I sure injoyed you my favorite part was when you told us about your life. You are very cool.
I am glad that the enrichment center is going to open because I will have a place to play with my friends and have fun. I can't wait to go there.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that this building is coming up because I want to play my favorite games with my favorite people.
ReplyDeleteI think that this community center mean a lot to the people. I am retired and I don't have nothing to do. This place will give me something to do instead of just sitting around. You will get something out of it.
ReplyDeleteI am really happy about the center because a lot of kids don't have nothing to do. They can go over there and have a lot of fun. Like, some people after school instead of going home they go over there and play games like chess and hang out with their friends and they can say out of trouble too.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing to do in this community and we can go and do activities and go play. That why I think that they should put that center there.
ReplyDeleteI think that they should make that because they will help a lot of kids stay out of trouble and having some activities to do. I will also allow me to meet new friends and people and just getting out of trouble and doing good.
ReplyDeleteFor something like this to be place in our community in this area is well needed because the kids need something to do. They need to occupy that free time because that is the problem, they have too much time and time on a young mind that brings problems. I am all for t. I will going up there my self.
ReplyDeleteThis project is a good idea because right now there are nothing but a lot of hoodlums running around here. They can do something constructive with their life being over there at the center and it will be a positive environment now because we aint really got nothing around here like that.
ReplyDeleteI think that the community center would be good because it will give the community a place for senior citizens, children and single mothers to have as a support system. They will have afterschool and things that they can get into that is positive. They will get positive direction, good mentoring and programs there that will help the community. Overall I think that it will be an enrichment for this community because at present, we don't have anything like this in the community that will draw children. We need good people like the ones at Project United in this community
ReplyDeleteI've been fortunate enough to witness the works of Project United. This is an amazing program and the city of Dallas would be lucky to have them. I'm excited for this expansion because I know it's just the beginning of what their dreams and visions will do to better the lives of others.
ReplyDeleteI love project united and all the fun stuff we do there. I think it is great because it is something for kids to do that keeps them out of trouble.
ReplyDeleteI think that the HG project is great. I love what Project United did with the school and for the community. I also know that my uncle believes in this project because he spends a lot of time there and whenever I visit, so do me and my family.
ReplyDeleteDear Mr. Boyce
ReplyDeleteThank you for coming and telling us about your life. I hope you are happy at your community center. My favorite part was when you told your dog's name Snoopy. Thank you for talking about your life.
Dear Mr. Boyce,
ReplyDeleteHow are you doing today? Thank you for deciding to make a idea of making schools. I like how you told us all about you. I also like it that you are honest.
Lon Boyce and this organization are very dedicated to serving their communities and helping others. They deserve assistance to help them serve even more children and families.
ReplyDeleteDear Mr. Boyce
ReplyDeleteThank you Mr. Boyce for taking the time to talk to us about what you do in the community. One day I will come down to the community center and see you and your wife Mrs. Dee. I can't believe that you did something so great. One day I will try to do something great to.
Mr. Boyce thank you for teaching us about the community center. Thank you for caring about us.
ReplyDeleteDear Mr. Boyce thank you so much for opening the community center! Thank you for caring so so much! Thank you for loving kids so much too!
ReplyDeleteMr. Boyce, thank you for opening the community center. We care about you and I love you.
ReplyDeleteWith everything going on in todays society our youth needs a place to go to occupy their time. Project United will bring positivity into their lives and motivate them to strive towards success. So many people are complaining that the children of today are sorry, lazy, disrespectful, etc. but no one has tried to steer them in the right direction until now. Thanks Pastor Boyce for providing our children and our community with Project United.
ReplyDeleteMr. Boyce, thank you for taking time coming and talking to us. I also thank you for opening the community center. You would be the perfect president ever. My favorite subject is math too!
ReplyDeleteMr. Boyce, thank you for coming and talking to us.. You are a great man. You should come over again and tell us about your community center again. You are great for opening the center. Thank you for caring about all the children. I think you can do anything you want.
ReplyDeleteThis project is outstanding. There is nothing wrong with this project because it benefits the community a lot and in different ways. I use to go to church but now I don't have a way to get there because I am retired and on low income. With this center being across the street from where I live, I can walk over there. Thanks Project United for caring.
ReplyDeleteThis project will give people the opportunity to do something for they self instead of sitting around and doing nothing. We all just trying to make it and this center will be a big help.
ReplyDeleteThis project is gone be good for the children that need something to do. Any kind of direction other than just roaming around aimless is good.
ReplyDeleteI think that the center will be nice for the community and our youth. It is very much needed because it will be a positive influence that will help save our community as well as our youyh today.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to positive influence in the community, we need all that we can get. Thanks Project United.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that I will have somewhere safe to play and to have something to do.
ReplyDeleteI am handicap because of diabetes and the plans that Project United has for people like myself will enable us to participant in activities. Sometimes, I feel lonely and think that nobody cares but now I have hope. Thanks Project United.
ReplyDeleteIn our city, organized recreational activities are becoming less and less available for kids. Budgets are being cut and the main thing that is being neglected are the kids. Then, we wonder why they get into so much trouble. The city has closed park swimming pools and limited the use of recreation facilities. Thay claim that there is no money but they always find it for stuff that don't really benefit our community and it is sad. A grant like this to Project United would really benefit the neighborhood. Now who wouldn't want to support this project.
ReplyDeleteAs a resident of Southeast Dallas for 61 years, serving 15 years as Executive Vice-President of the Southeast Dallas Chamber of Commerce, I feel qualified to understand the needs of our community. We have the opportunity to add more improvements for the area. The location is perfect and a beautiful building. To invest time in youth programs should be a priority because it develops leadership for the future.
ReplyDeleteMr. Boyce, thank you for coming to talk to us and opening the community center, caring for kids and bing a preacher. Thanks for all the things you do and I think your a good good man.
ReplyDeleteMr. Boyce I loved your speech. Thank you for opening the community center. You are the best. You are my favorite. I wish you would be our teacher.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mr. Boyce for coming to our class. We had a good time. We really appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteDear Mr. Boyce, thank you for opening the community center and comimg to our class. Thanks for caring about us.
ReplyDeleteMr. Boyce thank you for coming to talk to us. I appreciate you opening the community center and you care about kids. You would be the very best community guy ever.
ReplyDeleteMr. Boyce, thank you for telling about you and your community service. I like to hear your speech. Then what is your favorite sport. Is it basketball or football or soccor? Are you a good person. Do you hafted to work hard to but I do to. I am so glad you have the kids place now.
ReplyDeleteMr. Boyce, I like it when you told your life. Thanks for answerig all of our questions. I would like to see the community center.
ReplyDeleteCertificate of Appreciation:
ReplyDeleteAwarded to Rev. Lon Boyce in recognition of valuable contribution, commitment and dedication to the citizens of Dallas, Your continued support has made our community safer and a better place to live
Dear Mr. Boyce:
ReplyDeleteThe Texas Commission on Environment Quality is pleased to office this letter of support for Project United's application to the U.S. Environment Protection Agency for a Brownfields Cleanup grant at 1446 Conner Drive, in the City of Dallas. The TCEQ believes that the grant will significantly benefit the City of Dallas by providing a Community Center which will provide many services and facilities for improving the health and welfare of people within the community. The TCEQ looks forward to working with Project United on its Brownfield initiative and supports the grant application.
Dear Mr. Boyce
ReplyDeleteThis letter is in support of Project United CDC in their attempt to obtain a Browns fields Cleanup Grant of up to $200,000 from the U.S. Environment Protection Agency. Project United CDC’S plan to provide public services to low and very low income individuals and families is admirable. To encourage individual growth, self-sufficiency, self-respect and ultimately economic growth for your community is much needed.
I definitely see the need of this grant because this community does not have enough community services for teens. These teens need programs in their own neighborhoods. As proposed by Project United, you will provide a safe haven of community services and support programs, that you will offer programs vitally needed in this area, such as, counseling, computer classes, and recreational games is very significant. These opportunities will give the teens a place to go after school and in the summer. I understand it is your hope that these services and support programs will have a positive effect on these teens and keep them from becoming troubled teens.
The fact that the 60,000 square foot enrichment center offer amenities such as a ballroom/cafeteria, media room, movie theatre, a teen club, and a fitness center is so important. The fitness facility that will be designed to accommodate teens will certainly be a needed addition to the area. The idea to incorporate fun and games with exercise in order to assist with the health and welfare of teens in the community would seem to be another plus for the center, as is the plan to have accommodations for the handicap.
It seems very important that there will be a 6,000 square foot training facility with nine large classrooms that are to be used for out of school programs, family counseling, and juvenile services. These services are sorely needed in the Southern sector of our city.
Project United’s goal to bridge the gap between the Northern and Southern sectors of our city is significant. I am sure the revitalization of the community enrichment center will assist in providing out of school mentoring and preventative programs for at risk teens in Dallas County. It seems to be a win-win for all involved and especially for the city of Dallas.
Dear Mr. Boyce,
ReplyDeleteI am pleased and excited to offer this letter of support for the Project United’s application to the E.P.A. Brownsfield Cleanup Grant, which is in District 110. This grant will benefit the community greatly, by providing a facility that meets the needs of peoples.
I personally would like to thank you for your vision of Project United, we need more can-do spirited persons to step forward and take charge of their neighborhoods and communities to improve the quality of life for its residents, many times people think it’s the elected officials solely responsibility to improve communities, which is sometimes true, but it takes all of us working together to bring about change, this is what happens when Public, Private and Nonprofits come together for the betterment of the community .
I look forward to working with Project United on its Brownsfield’s initiative and supports the grant application.
Dear Mr. Boyce,
ReplyDeleteIt is my sincere pleasure to lend my support to the Project United Community Development Corporation (“Project United”) in your efforts to secure a $200,000 Brownsfield Cleanup Grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA).
I am well aware of the work that Project United has already done in the community, specifically in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas. Since 2005, your nonprofit agency has provided much needed services to underserved teens and youth who otherwise would be left in need of supervision, entertainment, and safety when not in school. Studies have shown that it is during these times that young people are most likely to yield to negative behavior such as crime, substance abuse, delinquency, and early sexual encounters. With proper and continued funding, your Community Center offers a safe haven with various services and support programs that encourage productive and more desirable options such as tutoring, counseling, computer and leadership classes, as well as recreational games for its participants.
As the U.S Representative for the area, I am acutely aware of the need for programs that embrace, support and provide positive options for individuals in distress. Programs like yours encourage individual growth, self-sufficiency, self-respect and ultimately the economic growth and stability of our community. Your efforts help to build positive family relationships, encourage cooperative community action, and promote responsibility for healthy living.
I offer my continued support for your efforts at Project United to provide effective programs designed to bridge the void that exists for the impoverished in our city. I wish you much success and fully support your program.
With the economy the way it is and with positive programs being cut left and right. The problem of children as well as adults not having positive things to do is growing. If ever there was time that a program lime this was needed the time is now. This is no longer a just a good thing but through the neglect of this area over time it has become a necessity.
ReplyDeleteGreat Movement For EPA & Dallas County To Get This OrganiZtion to get together, I've always been a positive influence to our youth the best way I can.. Can't Wait For The OUTCOME!!
ReplyDeleteI Pretty Much Understand how difficult it could be to redirect our youth to positive young adults, as a worker at the juvenile kids for Dallas county I realize how much these kids are our future and it's iur job to send them to the right directin, this program I believe will limit our youth from so much negativity in this county and prayerfully this program can spread worldwide,
ReplyDeleteI went to project united Town Hall meeting and it went great. I support this community enrichment center 100%. Great Job Mr. Boyce, I see big things in this center.
ReplyDeleteI am so ready for this community center to open. This is well needed for everyone and should be supported by everyone. I Can't wait to walk in and go to work for our community.
