Let Us Know How We Can Serve You Better

Updated: 7/8/2014

On May 28, 2014, we received a letter from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in order to congratulate us and confirm that Project United Community Development Corporation was selected as one of the entities to be awarded a Brownfields Cleanup Grant for $200,000 to execute an asbestos clean-up of our site located at 1446 Conner Drive in the Pleasant Grove community of Dallas, Texas. Brownfields Cleanup Grants provides funds to carry out cleanup activities at a specific brownfield site owned by the applicant.

Our Community Centers are safe havens of community services and support programs. Youth have various programs such as mentoring, out-of-school tutoring, counseling, computer classes, and recreational games. Our Community Action Group has found that most teens become problem teens because they do not have anything else to do. These community services and support programs causes teens to have positive attitudes that keep them from becoming troubled teens.

We are using this blog as a forum for comments and questions.

Thanks for letting us know what you think!

On behalf of Project United, thank you for commenting about our community projects. The comments have been an enlightenment and a great encouragement too. Your responses are valued and what you think is very important to us so keep letting us know what you think!

Thanks again,

Lon E. Boyce
President

  8. Project United is a wonderful program that helps our youth; rather thats helping them with school work to help putting clothes on their backs. I personally can not name any other program that offers the services that Project United does. This program will help our youth of tomorrow to become successful adults. With that being said Thank You Projrct United for all that you do.

  9. I am glad there is a program in the small town of Honey Grove wanting to assist the youth. My son was very excited at the opportunities he was given. It has helped him become more responsible and giving. Keep up the good work.

  18. I think that Project United is a great thing in my community because there is a great opportunity for my friends and I to have a great time at the center. I also think teenagers can hang out up there so that they can stay out of trouble.

  19. The opening of our Dallas community center is a part of all my dreams coming true as well as assisting in the fulfillment of the dreams of the teens of our community. I have interviewed many youth from ages 6 to 18 and they all have made the same statement, "I don't have anything to do that will keep me out of trouble”. My response to them was, “we are going to do everything that we possibly can to change that fact”. This project will assist Dallas County in the positive change that is necessary for the continued health and welfare of our community. I can’t hardly wait until it opens!

  23. Project United's project in Honey Grove is awesome! The after school program offers tutoring, food, and leadership to kids. They also had a back to school style show for the kids. Boy Scouts were able to earn credits by volunteering to do some painting. All of these things are positive influences on young people. When Project United's Community Center in Dallas is opened, the same type of services and MORE will be offered to even more young people in the Dallas area. I look forward to assisting in this project the same as I volunteered for in Honey Grove. God Speed!!!

Lon gave us a tour of the facility and it is looking good - and the plans they have for it are quite impressive! We're so glad to have good programs in the community!

  27. Project United is a wonderful thing because it allows kids to have a place to go. When I was a kid, we did not have a place to go in order to keep us out of trouble. I think that it is every parent's dream for their kids to have programs like the ones that Project United provides. I am glad to be a part of this project.

  28. If a center like Project United had been available in Dallas, I know that my grandson would have had a better chance of not getting into trouble. Project United is needed for all the kids in Pleasant Grove.

  29. I am so excited about this program and I know that it is a positive change that is well needed in Dallas. Not only is it for kids to have fun, but to also teach them that they can achieve their goals & learn that we need more positive values. Showing them and the rest of the community that every man, woman, and child that every one counts.

  30. This is well needed in Dallas, it's not just a community center it will be a place where people can come together. No one will be left out, this will be a new adventure for those who get invloved. As I listen to Mr. Boyce in the town hall meeting I watched the excitment that he showed as he talked about assisting people & with having this center other will do the same and assist someone.

  31. Wow, I wish that there was a center like this when I was coming up. Not only to have fun in but to have a place where I could have a mentor that really cared about what kids like me was into. It's hard out there and Mr. Boyce & his staff shows that they care about not only the community, but what kids are doing & what the communties all around are doing. Thanks we need this.

  45. I am glad that this building is coming up because I want to play my favorite games with my favorite people.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I think that this community center mean a lot to the people. I am retired and I don't have nothing to do. This place will give me something to do instead of just sitting around. You will get something out of it.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I am really happy about the center because a lot of kids don't have nothing to do. They can go over there and have a lot of fun. Like, some people after school instead of going home they go over there and play games like chess and hang out with their friends and they can say out of trouble too.

    ReplyDelete
  48. There is nothing to do in this community and we can go and do activities and go play. That why I think that they should put that center there.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I think that they should make that because they will help a lot of kids stay out of trouble and having some activities to do. I will also allow me to meet new friends and people and just getting out of trouble and doing good.

    ReplyDelete
  50. For something like this to be place in our community in this area is well needed because the kids need something to do. They need to occupy that free time because that is the problem, they have too much time and time on a young mind that brings problems. I am all for t. I will going up there my self.

    ReplyDelete
  51. This project is a good idea because right now there are nothing but a lot of hoodlums running around here. They can do something constructive with their life being over there at the center and it will be a positive environment now because we aint really got nothing around here like that.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think that the community center would be good because it will give the community a place for senior citizens, children and single mothers to have as a support system. They will have afterschool and things that they can get into that is positive. They will get positive direction, good mentoring and programs there that will help the community. Overall I think that it will be an enrichment for this community because at present, we don't have anything like this in the community that will draw children. We need good people like the ones at Project United in this community

  53. I've been fortunate enough to witness the works of Project United. This is an amazing program and the city of Dallas would be lucky to have them. I'm excited for this expansion because I know it's just the beginning of what their dreams and visions will do to better the lives of others.

  66. This project is outstanding. There is nothing wrong with this project because it benefits the community a lot and in different ways. I use to go to church but now I don't have a way to get there because I am retired and on low income. With this center being across the street from where I live, I can walk over there. Thanks Project United for caring.

  72. I am handicap because of diabetes and the plans that Project United has for people like myself will enable us to participant in activities. Sometimes, I feel lonely and think that nobody cares but now I have hope. Thanks Project United.

    ReplyDelete
  73. In our city, organized recreational activities are becoming less and less available for kids. Budgets are being cut and the main thing that is being neglected are the kids. Then, we wonder why they get into so much trouble. The city has closed park swimming pools and limited the use of recreation facilities. Thay claim that there is no money but they always find it for stuff that don't really benefit our community and it is sad. A grant like this to Project United would really benefit the neighborhood. Now who wouldn't want to support this project.

  84. Carol A. Laquey / Asst. Vice President / MasterplanDecember 24, 2011 at 12:32 PM

    Dear Mr. Boyce

This letter is in support of Project United CDC in their attempt to obtain a Browns fields Cleanup Grant of up to $200,000 from the U.S. Environment Protection Agency. Project United CDC’S plan to provide public services to low and very low income individuals and families is admirable. To encourage individual growth, self-sufficiency, self-respect and ultimately economic growth for your community is much needed.

I definitely see the need of this grant because this community does not have enough community services for teens. These teens need programs in their own neighborhoods. As proposed by Project United, you will provide a safe haven of community services and support programs, that you will offer programs vitally needed in this area, such as, counseling, computer classes, and recreational games is very significant. These opportunities will give the teens a place to go after school and in the summer. I understand it is your hope that these services and support programs will have a positive effect on these teens and keep them from becoming troubled teens.

The fact that the 60,000 square foot enrichment center offer amenities such as a ballroom/cafeteria, media room, movie theatre, a teen club, and a fitness center is so important. The fitness facility that will be designed to accommodate teens will certainly be a needed addition to the area. The idea to incorporate fun and games with exercise in order to assist with the health and welfare of teens in the community would seem to be another plus for the center, as is the plan to have accommodations for the handicap.

It seems very important that there will be a 6,000 square foot training facility with nine large classrooms that are to be used for out of school programs, family counseling, and juvenile services. These services are sorely needed in the Southern sector of our city.

Project United’s goal to bridge the gap between the Northern and Southern sectors of our city is significant. I am sure the revitalization of the community enrichment center will assist in providing out of school mentoring and preventative programs for at risk teens in Dallas County. It seems to be a win-win for all involved and especially for the city of Dallas.

    Dear Mr. Boyce,

I am pleased and excited to offer this letter of support for the Project United’s application to the E.P.A. Brownsfield Cleanup Grant, which is in District 110. This grant will benefit the community greatly, by providing a facility that meets the needs of peoples.

I personally would like to thank you for your vision of Project United, we need more can-do spirited persons to step forward and take charge of their neighborhoods and communities to improve the quality of life for its residents, many times people think it’s the elected officials solely responsibility to improve communities, which is sometimes true, but it takes all of us working together to bring about change, this is what happens when Public, Private and Nonprofits come together for the betterment of the community .

I look forward to working with Project United on its Brownsfield’s initiative and supports the grant application.

    Dear Mr. Boyce,

It is my sincere pleasure to lend my support to the Project United Community Development Corporation (“Project United”) in your efforts to secure a $200,000 Brownsfield Cleanup Grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA).

I am well aware of the work that Project United has already done in the community, specifically in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas. Since 2005, your nonprofit agency has provided much needed services to underserved teens and youth who otherwise would be left in need of supervision, entertainment, and safety when not in school. Studies have shown that it is during these times that young people are most likely to yield to negative behavior such as crime, substance abuse, delinquency, and early sexual encounters. With proper and continued funding, your Community Center offers a safe haven with various services and support programs that encourage productive and more desirable options such as tutoring, counseling, computer and leadership classes, as well as recreational games for its participants.

As the U.S Representative for the area, I am acutely aware of the need for programs that embrace, support and provide positive options for individuals in distress. Programs like yours encourage individual growth, self-sufficiency, self-respect and ultimately the economic growth and stability of our community. Your efforts help to build positive family relationships, encourage cooperative community action, and promote responsibility for healthy living.

I offer my continued support for your efforts at Project United to provide effective programs designed to bridge the void that exists for the impoverished in our city. I wish you much success and fully support your program.

  87. With the economy the way it is and with positive programs being cut left and right. The problem of children as well as adults not having positive things to do is growing. If ever there was time that a program lime this was needed the time is now. This is no longer a just a good thing but through the neglect of this area over time it has become a necessity.

  89. I Pretty Much Understand how difficult it could be to redirect our youth to positive young adults, as a worker at the juvenile kids for Dallas county I realize how much these kids are our future and it's iur job to send them to the right directin, this program I believe will limit our youth from so much negativity in this county and prayerfully this program can spread worldwide,
